George Zimmerman’s wife files for divorce

ORLANDO, Fla.  — George Zimmerman’s wife filed for divorce yesterday after citing the strain that his trial for shooting Trayvon Martin placed on their six-year marriage.

Shellie Zimmerman, 26, made the decision because of “disappointment,” her attorney, Kelly Sims, said.

Zimmerman’s brother, Robert Zimmerman, wrote on Twitter: “Pray 4 them.”

The divorce filing in Tampa, Fla., came two months after George Zimmerman’s acquittal on murder charges and a week after his wife told ABC’s “Good Morning America” how they lived in hiding while awaiting his trial.

“We have pretty much lived like gypsies for the past year and a half. We’ve lived in a 20-foot trailer in the woods, scared every night that someone would go and find us and that it would be horrific,” she said.

In the interview she refused to say if she and her husband were still together.

She also said that she felt “very much alone” without him when she pleaded guilty last month to lying about the couple’s finances when bail was set for her husband.
