Eagles player who used N-word gets in fight with black teammate

Riley Cooper didn’t use any racial slurs this time, but he did managed to anger another teammate at Eagles practice Thursday.

Cooper, who made plenty of enemies – including many on his team – after a video circulated in July of him using the ‘N’ word at a concert in Philadelphia, said he regretted it and it wouldn’t happen again. So when he and Eagles cornerback Cary Williams, who is African American, got into a fight during practice Thursday, it was thought to be based on that incident.

During the concert, Cooper was seen and heard on video saying, “I will jump that fence and fight every n—– here, bro.”

Thursday during a 1-on-1 drill, Cooper was going against Williams when the two exchanged words and then a few shoves. A player told Philly.com that Williams told Cooper, “I’m not a n—- you [mess] with.”

Williams said last month he didn’t know Cooper but the fact that he used a derogatory term was hurtful and that accepting his apology would take time. After their on-field incident yesterday, in which Michael Vick and other players had to separate the pair, Williams told reporters, “Don’t even come by here. I’m not talking at all. At all,” according to CSN’s Geoff Mosher.

Williams also said this had nothing to do with Cooper’s past, and Cooper agreed with that, saying everything was fine between the two. But Vick seemed to think differently.

Vick said that the two had been going “back and forth all summer, so it was bound to happen.” But with Jeremy Maclin out for the season, Cooper is the Eagles No. 2 wide receiver and Vick noted, “they’ve got to understand the bigger picture,” according to Reuben Frank of CSN Philly.
