FX remake of ‘American Psycho’ on tap

The Christian Bale gorefest “American Psycho” will soon be a dramatic television series on FX.

The new iteration will spin the story forward several decades after the sickening events of the controversial, R-rated 2000 film and Bret Easton Ellis novel on which it was based.

The movie was set in the late 1980s, when Patrick Bateman (Bale) — a Harvard graduate and wealthy investment banker who did some moonlighting as a serial killer — was young, handsome and just hitting his stride.

The film was made for $7 million and grossed $34 million worldwide.

How will Patrick have changed over time? Let’s just say he won’t be polishing the pews at his local church.

In the TV series, Bateman will be in his mid-50s and will serve as a mentor to a younger serial killer, who has the drive to become the next generation’s “American Psycho.”

FX shows such as “Sons of Anarchy” and “The Bridge” feature a fair amount of violence, but it goes without saying that “American Psycho” could be in a class by itself. The lead role has not yet been cast.
