‘NCIS’ producer tweets Cote de Pablo’s departure

Gary Glasberg, the executive producer of CBS’ top-rated drama “NCIS” is trying to appease the show’s fans over the departure of star Cote de Pablo, who played agent Ziva David.

De Pablo will be leaving the show this season — very possibly in the first few episodes.

Glasberg posted a letter on the show’s Twitter site, explaining de Pablo’s departure — and hinting at the fate of her on-screen character.

“The amazing resolution you’re going to see is pretty damn heart-wrenching and we’re incredibly proud of it,” Glasberg wrote, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Prepare yourselves for a moment in television history. Images that will end up in the archives.

“I couldn’t be happier with how my ‘NCIS’ family stepped up and did some of the most emotional work we’ve ever done.”

“NCIS” is television’s most popular drama, with over 20 million viewers tuning in each week — a huge number in today’s shrinking TV universe. De Pablo announced her exit July 10.

According to reports, CBS CEO Les Moonves tried to keep her on the show with offers of a higher salary, but the actress wanted out and refused everything that was thrown her way.

The series, which premiered in 2003, stars Mark Harmon, Rocky Carroll, Michael Weatherly, David McCallum and Pauley Perrette. It launched a successful spinoff, “NCIS: LA” and shows no signs of slowing down.
