Dog killed by LIRR train after owner trespasses on tracks

A Queens man lost his best friend this morning after trespassing on train tracks with his dog, authorities said.

The man, who lives in a home next to the tracks in Woodside, was walking with his unleashed pooch when a Penn Station-bound train from Great Neck struck the dog at 10:11 a.m., according to an MTA spokeswoman. It happened about 200 yards from the LIRR station in Woodside.

The owner had his hand grazed, and was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for a check-up. The pet died at the scene.

He received a summons for trespassing on railroad property.

The train continued to Penn Station almost an hour later, at 11:07 a.m..

Two trains on the Port Washington branch were cancelled, and 3 trains had delays of up to 45 minutes, the spokeswoman added.

Normal service has resumed.
