Cowboy has Giant grudge

IRVING, Texas — Players spilling what they know about their old team is nothing new in the NFL, but they don’t usually do it as gleefully as Kyle Bosworth this week.

Miffed at how the Giants handled his sudden release last Saturday, Bosworth said he is gladly serving as a fountain of Big Blue information for the Cowboys going into Sunday night’s season-opening matchup of NFC East rivals at AT&T Stadium.

Dallas claimed the veteran linebacker off waivers last weekend, and the Cowboys have been peppering him with questions ever since about what wrinkles the Giants are working on to retool a defense that ranked 31st in the NFL last year.

“They’ve been asking, and I’ve been happy to oblige, too,” Bosworth told The Post yesterday. “Whether it’s valuable will be up to them, and I guess we’ll see Sunday night. But any information is good information in this league, and I’m telling them everything I know. I’m sure it’ll be beneficial.”

Bosworth, a nephew of famed 1980s Oklahoma and Seahawks linebacker Brian “The Boz” Bosworth, is still upset with the Giants because they waived him just hours after he said coaches congratulated the free-agent signee on making the final roster.

“When they called me in, I thought maybe they’d gotten the wrong number,” said Bosworth, who became expendable when the Giants kept just five linebackers. “I was very surprised. I thought everything was good and I’d made the team. Things happen, but that was kind of crazy and shocking to me.”

Bosworth is a Dallas-area native, though, so he didn’t stay disappointed for long after the Cowboys picked him up.

“I’ve been a lifelong fan of the Cowboys,” he said. “I grew up here, so the chance to be a hometown guy is a lot of fun. And it would be fun to beat a big rival Sunday night.”

The Cowboys completed the signing of veteran Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters yesterday to shore up their offensive line, but the Giants will likely benefit from good timing this week.

That’s because the 36-year-old Waters — last seen playing for the Patriots in their most recent Super Bowl loss to the Giants — has been out of football for 18 months and isn’t expected to play Sunday night.

As a result, the Cowboys could start the unheralded combination of Doug Free and Ronald Leary at guard and rookie Travis Frederick at center against the Giants.-

“Brian’s a guy we’ve been interested in for a while,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “He’s a real pro who’s played at a high level in this league for a long time, and we’re excited to have him on board.”
