Two men rescued after drifting at sea for eight days

MIAMI — Two Bahamian citizens have been rescued after their boat capsized off the Florida coast more than a week ago.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew hoisted the two men from the capsized boat east of Riviera Beach on Saturday. A photo released Sunday by the Coast Guard shows two men resting on the hull of the boat.

Authorities say the Coast Guard Sector in Miami received a report of the capsized vessel Saturday afternoon and diverted a boat and helicopter to the area to search for the men.

The men told rescuers they had been drifting at sea for eight days and had ingested salt water.

The two men were transferred to Del Ray Medical Center for further treatment.
