Power plays

Game 5: Capitals 2, Rangers 1 (OT)

Capitals lead series, 3-2

3 STARS

1. Mike Ribeiro

The Capitals center gave the team its second overtime win of the series at home, scoring the game-winner 9:24 into the extra session. It was his first goal of the series.

2. Henrik Lundqvist

The Rangers goalie (33 saves) kept the game going much longer than it should have, making up for another awful offensive performance on the road and giving the Rangers a chance to win until the very end.

3. Braden Holtby

Holtby has held the Rangers to two combined goals in the Capitals’ three wins, a drastic improvement over the eight goals he surrendered in Games 3 and 4 combined.

KEY MOMENT

After scoring a power play in each game at home, the Rangers failed to convert four power plays, including back-to-back chances late in the second period. The Rangers are now 0-for-11 on power plays in Washington in the series.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT

‘We bounced back from 0-2. I don’t see us going down [at the Garden]. We’re trying to feed off the crowd and it’s going to be a big game for us.’ — Derick Brassard
