Brooklyn English teacher uses Web site to raise money for Broadway ‘Macbeth’ tickets

Forty New York City high school students are going to Alan Cumming’s one-man “Macbeth” on Broadway thanks to the kindness of strangers.

English teacher Eric Jordan of Frederick Douglass Academy VII (seven) in Brooklyn was teaching “Macbeth” and wanted to take his class to the new production. But the show was expensive even with a group discount.

Jordan sought help on the crowdfunding website gofundme.com. He said most of his students have never seen a professional theater performance, let alone Broadway.

He reached his goal of raising $4,500 by Friday.

Jordan said 40 students and four chaperones will see “Macbeth” on May 2.

He wanted to teach the students that when something seems out of your grasp “there’s always a way to bring it closer to you.”
