Joba to Mo: ‘Don’t shush me’

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Mariano Rivera and Joba Chamberlain had an awkward exchange in the Yankees’ dugout before last night’s game according to a person who witnessed it.

Rivera was talking to people about his pregame meeting with a family who lost a son when Chamberlain, in a loud voice, was trying to get somebody’s attention behind the dugout.

Rivera asked Chamberlain to lower his voice. Chamberlain replied several times “Don’t shush me.”

Rivera explained to Chamberlain he wasn’t telling him to be quiet but to lower his voice.

Asked by The New York Times about the incident Chamberlain said it was between him and Rivera.
