Newest Jet from S.I. feeling ‘Oday’

Oday Aboushi grew up rooting for both the Giants and the Jets.

He’s green all the way now.

The Staten Island native realized a lifelong dream yesterday, when the Jets took the Virginia offensive lineman in the fifth round (141st pick overall) of the NFL Draft.

Aboushi watched the draft with his large family, his mother, Eman, and nine siblings and their children.

“It’s a Jet household,” joked Aboushi, who spoke with owner Woody Johnson, coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik shortly after he was selected. “We have a bunch of Jets gear already.

“I wasn’t shocked, but I was a little surprised. I had a feeling I was going to the Jets. I knew anything was possible.”

The 6-foot-5, 308-pounder grew up in Brooklyn, attended Xaverian High School and now resides in Staten Island. The second youngest in his family, Oday followed the path of his older brother, Aymen, a star defensive tackle at Fordham who is now a lawyer.

“[Being drafted] was awesome,” Aboushi said. “It’s a feeling like no other. I really can’t explain it. I’ve never been as excited or as anxious as [I was] the past few days. To see it happen is a dream itself.”

He started every game the last three years at Virginia and appeared in 37 of 43 overall. He was a first team All-ACC selection this past seasonand had personal workouts with the Giants and Rams in addition to the Jets.

Aboushi played tackle at Virginia, but could move to guard, the position he played at the Senior Bowl.
