Bail denied in NYU ‘rape’ try

A married Scarsdale dad accused of trying to rape an NYU student after she left a study group was ordered held without bail Thursday.

Prosecutors said Glenn Williams, 28, grabbed the woman from behind, put her in a chokehold and tried to rape her on Oct. 8 on Thompson Street. But the brave 20-year-old fought off the attacker, who fled with her bag.

Surveillance video captured a portion of the 1 a.m. attack. Williams was arrested after detectives said they matched him to the man in the video who, after fleeing, walked into a building, took off his coat and emerged
using the coat to cover the woman’s purse.

Williams was charged with robbery, rape, sexual abuse and assault. He was released from prison in July on a weapons charge. Sources said he has prior arrests for drugs, robbery and assault.

Williams’ lawyer, Hamilton Lee, said the defendant is married and is the father of a young child.
