Giants’ Snee could opt for season-ending hip surgery

It is highly unlikely the Giants will get right guard Chris Snee back on the field this week and, if things do not quiet down with his ailing hip, there’s a chance Snee will not return this season.

Snee played last season despite a partially torn labrum and bone spurs in his right hip before having surgery this past offseason. Snee currently is dealing with a labrum injury in his left hip. This injury, though, is more painful than the first hip issue, according to a source, because this one is impeding the joint, which prevents him from functioning on the field.

“Yes, surgery is definitely an option,’’ the source said. “The question is just if they can get the hip playable, like they did with the other one. He is a tough SOB, but if you can’t move, it doesn’t matter how tough you are. The last time, at least he was able to move.’’

If Snee, 31, requires surgery, it would end his season, as the recovery time for a torn hip labrum is 6-8 months. It could also end his career, as he has contemplated retirement. Snee missed his first game of the season last week in Kansas City, with third-year player James Brewer starting at right tackle.

“I do not think it looks too good for this week either, unless they can get the joint to calm down, which has not happened yet,’’ the source said.

The Giants also made a practice squad transaction, re-signing wide receiver Marcus Harris and terminating the contract of offensive lineman Steven Baker .
