Voters: Capitol crooked

ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo might think “government is working again,” but a new survey shows the public isn’t so sure in the wake of corruption scandals.

According to the Siena College survey released yesterday, 67 percent of registered voters say government is becoming more dysfunctional every day, while 26 percent say it’s more effective.

And after the spate of lawmaker arrests and a recent report detailing alleged sexual harassment by state Assemblyman Vito Lopez, 88 percent of voters in the survey believe more arrests are imminent. That’s up from 81 percent last month.

The public wants action. A majority, or 57 percent, of voters statewide, supports a publicly financed campaign system that uses taxpayer money to match contributions to candidates and requires lower contribution limits.
