Stanley Cup Finals snares new record

Who knew?

While hockey generally doesn’t generate a lot of heat in the viewership department, the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals continue to shatter cable viewership records.

Monday night’s Game 3 — a 2-0 Bruins victory over the Blackhawks — snared a record 4 million viewers on NBC Sports Network.

That’s the most-watched NHL game — regular season or otherwise — in the network’s eight-year history.

It’s also the most-watched Stanley Cup Final game, on cable, in 11 years — beating the Carolina-Detroit game, which snared 4 million viewers on ESPN.

Game 3 surpassed last Saturday’s Game 2 (3.9 million viewers).
