‘As Cool As I Am’ review

Oh no: Claire Danes as the mom? Already? What’s next, Chelsea Clinton for president?

In “As Cool as I Am,” Danes plays a saucy telemarketer married to a lumberjack (James Marsden). She got pregnant as a teen with Lucy (Sarah Bolger), now a precocious 16-year-old who is pretty much headed for the same mistakes Mom made.

Few journeys of sexual awakening have ever been this dull, though; nice, bland Lucy narrates her trite feelings about coming of age as she and her even more boringly well-meaning boyfriend Kenny (Thomas Mann) fumble toward deeper intimacy.

Though darker elements loom in the shadows, nothing in this painfully sincere film is remotely affecting; just think of it as “My So-Called Strife.”
