MLB: Harper to get knee exam

The swelling in Bryce Harper’s left knee isn’t getting any better, so the Nationals outfielder will see a specialist next week and won’t be coming off the disabled list when he is eligible. Washington manager Davey Johnson said yesterday Harper will visit Dr. James Andrews on Monday for a second opinion on the knee that has been troublesome ever since the 20-year-old slugger ran into the wall at Dodger Stadium on May 13.

In Los Angeles, 22-year-old rookie sensation Yasiel Puig hit his first career grand slam, and the Dodgers defeated the Braves 5-0, snapping Atlanta’s five-game winning streak.

NFL: ’Boys’ Brent fails drug test

Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent tested positive for marijuana in a urine test taken on May 24 while he awaits trial in a car crash that killed teammate, Jerry Brown prosecutors in Dallas said in asking a judge to revoke the player’s $100,000 bond and issue a warrant for his arrest.

NCAA: Judge tosses PSU suit

Federal judge Yvette Kane yesterday threw out Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett’s lawsuit against the NCAA over sanctions against Penn State related to Jerry Sandusky, calling his argument “a Hail Mary pass” that easily warranted dismissal.

The antitrust lawsuit, filed in January, sought to overturn a $60 million fine, a four-year bowl ban, scholarship limits and other penalties.
