INSIDE THE MATCHUPS

INSIDE THE MATCHUPS

YANKEES: Hughes’ eight-inning, two-run performance during the Yankees’ 2-0 loss to the Rangers was in sharp contrast to his previous two outings, when he let up 14 hits, five walks and eight earned runs over 10 ¹/3 innings. In six career appearances (four starts) against the Twins, Hughes is 2-1 with a 3.33 ERA.

TWINS: Deduno has been a vastly different pitcher at home this season. In three starts in Minnesota, he has tossed 21 innings of four-run ball (1.71) — all Twins victories. On the road, he’s 1-2 with a 4.84 ERA.

STAT SO?

YANKEES: The Bombers went 42-39 through the first 81 games of the season. It marks the 19th time over the last 20 years the team has had a record of .500 or better in the first half of the season.

TWINS: Justin Morneau has 208 career home runs, just ahead of Kirby Puckett for fifth on the Twins’ all-time list. He needs three more to tie Bob Allison for fourth.
