NHL: Bruins, Stars make 7-player deal

The Bruins are sending Tyler Seguin to the Stars for fellow forward Loui Eriksson as part of a seven-player trade.

In addition to Eriksson, the Bruins also are acquiring forwards Matt Fraser, Reilly Smith and defenseman Joe Morrow. Dallas will receive Seguin, forward Rich Peverley and defenseman Ryan Button.

Danny Briere is heading home to his native Quebec, agreeing to terms on a two-year contract with the Canadiens. The 35-year-old Briere had his contract bought out by the Flyers last week.

Flyers captain Claude Giroux agreed to an eight-year extension worth more than $64 million. … Paul MacLean, the NHL’s coach of the year, has signed a three-year extension with the Senators.

NCAA: Center to study concussions

The University of Nebraska this month will open the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior, where concussion research will be a primary function. The center is housed in the new $55 million building attached to Memorial Stadium.

Louisville’s Luke Hancock, whose father passed away from cancer in June, was selected to be the flag bearer for the United States delegation for the opening ceremonies for the World University Games.

SOCCER: FIFA pres. interested in joint cup

FIFA senior vice-president and president of Argentina FA Julio Grondona confirmed interest in having the 2030 World Cup joint-hosted by Argentina and Uruguay, according to NBC Sports.

The 2030 competition would mark 100 years of World Cup play, with the first-ever World Cup hosted by Uruguay in 1930, and the final saw Uruguay defeat Argentina, 4-2.

Tour: German Greipel wins stage

Etc.: Gay runs year’s 2nd fastest 100
