8-car crash, 6 DUIs, 0 fatalities

HAPEVILLE, Ga. — Five drivers are currently each charged with driving under the influence for their roles in an eight-vehicle crash that closed southbound Interstate-75 lanes in Clayton County.

A sixth driver, who is currently hospitalized, will also be charged with DUI, FOX 5 Atlanta has learned.

A pedestrian hit by one the vehicles triggered the multi-car wreck in the pre-dawn hours of Friday, according to a spokesperson for the Clayton County Police Department. Authorities say the pedestrian is charged with being in the roadway.

The crash happened on I-75 southbound at the Charles W. Grant Parkway in Hapeville.

All southbound lanes at the crash site remained closed to traffic for a handful of hours Friday morning. Georgia DOT reopened the lanes to drivers just before 9 a.m.
