Zimmerman emerges from hiding to rescue driver trapped in overturned truck

George Zimmerman — under wraps since beating murder and manslaughter charges — emerged briefly from hiding to help passengers trapped in an overturned SUV, Florida officials said today.

The former suspect, who blew away unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, stopped Wednesday when he saw an overturned Ford Explorer, according to Seminole County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Heather Smith.

The crash happened at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Interstate 4 and Route 417, less than a mile from where Zimmerman shot and killed Martin.

Two parents and two children were briefly trapped inside. When deputies arrived at the scene, “two men – one of whom was George Zimmerman – had already helped assist the family by getting them out of the overturned vehicle,” Smith said.

Zimmerman did not witness the crash and left after making contact with the responding deputy, officials said.

The family was not injured in the crash.

Zimmerman hasn’t been seen in public since jurors declared not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter on July 13, sparking waves of protests across the country.

Martin and his father had been visiting the dad’s gal pal on Feb. 26, 2012, when the youngster had his deadly encounter with Zimmerman.

Martin stepped out to buy Skittles and an Arizona Iced Tea at a local store when armed neighborhood watch volunteer Zimmerman spotted the teen and followed him.

The two got into a confrontation that ended with Zimmerman fatally shooting Martin in the heart.

Jurors acquitted Zimmerman on all charges, buying defense claims that he feared for his life and was justified to use deadly force against the unarmed Martin.
