Bill failing his filings: elex board

Bill Thompson is slacking on his campaign filings, and it’s costing him.

The Democratic mayoral candidate (pictured) skipped the last two consecutive filings with the state Board of Elections for his still-active 2009 mayoral account, The Post has learned.

He was already slapped with a $1,052 penalty by the BOE for missing the January 2013 filing — a fine he has yet to pay — and faces another fine for missing the latest required reporting this month, board spokesman John Conklin said.

“The committee was sued for the missing January report and assessed a civil penalty of $1,052.50, which is unpaid at this time. Enforcement action for the July Periodic will not start until next week. If they make the filing before then, no action will be taken against the committee,” Conklin added.

Thompson kept open his account from his last unsuccessful mayoral run — against Mayor Bloomberg — because he had hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to the city for plastering phone polls with campaign posters.

He has whittled his debt down to $137,000, records show. Thompson has paid $444,029 so far in poster fines, city officials said.

Campaigns that are delinquent three consecutive times could be referred to law enforcement, Conklin said.

“We will update our filings with the state as required by law,” campaign spokesman John Collins said.
