INSIDE THE MATCHUPS
YANKEES: Hughes sports a deceptive 1-3 record in his past four starts. The right-hander has let up just nine runs in the 26 ¹/3 inning-span (3.08), and opponents have hit a measly .211 against him. But apart from a seven-run explosion on July 2 against the Twins — Hughes’ only victory in the stretch — the Yankees offense scored just two runs in his other three outings.
RANGERS: Ogando is set for his first start since being placed on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation after a June 5 outing. In his last rehab start, he allowed two runs in seven innings, but was limited to 80 pitches.
STAT SO?
YANKEES: In five career appearances against Texas — four starts — Hughes has stifled Texas bats, pitching to a 2.08 ERA. Rangers hitters have batted a meager .151 against him.
RANGERS: In 11 ²/3 innings against the Yankees, Ogando has allowed 13 runs, all earned (10.03 ERA), and the Bombers have hit a scorching .340 against him.
