Web beats TV at Comcast

Broadband beats cable TV yet again.

Comcast, the country’s largest cable company, reported losing 129,000 TV customers in its third quarter while it added 297,000 customers for high-speed cable.

The company now has 21.6 million video subscribers.

The Brian Roberts-led company beat the Street’s expectations, reporting quarterly profits of 65 cents per share, four cents more than estimates, on net income of $1.73 billion.

Revenue, reflecting the $1.2 billion in Olympics advertising in the year-ago period, fell 2.4 percent to $16.2 billion.

At NBCUniversal cable networks, ad revenue was up 4.6 percent while distribution fees grew 5.4 percent.

The biggest revenue increases were in its theme parks division, where revenue grew 7.9 percent thanks to new rides.
