Decision ‘soon’ on Gracie Mansion move, de Blasio says

The de Blasios are still trying to decide whether they can live without their Brooklyn identity.

Bill de Blasio promised a decision about moving the family from their modest Park Slope row house to Gracie Mansion after the four talked it over during Thanksgiving. But as of Sunday he said there’s still no consensus.

“The pull of Brooklyn is very strong in our lives,” he said after attending a church service memorializing Nelson Mandela in East New York. “So, you know, we have to figure out still that balance point between our love of our neighborhood and the real security and logistical considerations that matter in this decision.”

“Soon. Soon. We’re almost there,” he promised. “We’re close. There’s still some serious logistics and specifics to work out.”

He had suggested earlier that his son Dante’s commute to Brooklyn Technical HS would be a major factor in the decision, but then said that it didn’t mean his son was opposed to moving.

“That wasn’t necessarily his firm and final vote. But that was a real concern we had to work through,” said on Monday.
