GOP taps Bob Turner to run against Dem Weprin for Weiner’s seat

It’s a race!

Republican leaders in Queens tapped Bob Turner as the GOP candidate to run for randy ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner’s vacant congressional seat.

Turner will take on Democratic Assemblyman David Weprin in a district that covers much of central Queens, the Rockaways and portions of south Brooklyn.

Turner, 70, a retired businessman from Breezy Point, captured a surprising 40 percent of the vote in the Democratic-leaning district when he ran against Weiner last year.

“We are very pleased to have such a capable and experienced candidate to win this seat. Bob ran strongly against the incumbent last time, and we know he has the momentum now going into this special election to win and send a strong message to Washington that the people need real change,” said Queens GOP chairman Phil Ragusa.

The special election will be held on Sept. 13. Turner will hold a press conference at Forest Hills Station Square on Monday.
