Navy-Air Force game threatened by government shutdown

This isn’t going to help Congress’ anemic approval rating.

Following Monday’s government shutdown stemming from a stalemate over the Affordable Care Act, there is a chance Saturday’s sold-out game in Annapolis, Md., between Navy and Air Force could be cancelled, according to the Capital Gazette.

Troy Garnhart, the associate athletic director for Air Force, said because upper-class cadets at the Air Force Academy are considered military personnel, they could be subjected to travel restrictions under the shutdown.

Scott Strasemeier, the Naval Academy associate athletic director, said the Department of Defense has suspended all intercollegiate athletic competitions at its three service academies as a result of the government shutdown, with Navy cancelling its men’s soccer game Tuesday night against Howard.

The schools said they will let fans know of the game’s status by noon on Thursday. Kickoff is slated for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and is scheduled to be broadcast on CBS.
