Madoff staff trial expected to last 5 months

Potential jurors in the upcoming trial of five key staffers of Ponzi king Bernie Madoff should expect to be in it for the long haul.

Four-hundred people serving jury duty in Manhattan federal court were handed questionnaires on Wednesday to help determine whether they’ll be among the 12 jurors and six alternates selected for a trial that begins October 7 and is expected to last five months.

The nine-page form notes certain holidays in which the court will not be session during trial – including President’s Day in February.

Among the questions asked is whether the potential jurors “or anyone close” to them were “affected” by “events relating to Madoff Securities” and whether anything they’ve” heard, read or watched “about Madoff and his company would make it difficult to remain impartial.”

Former Madoff secretary Annette Bongiorno is among the five on the trial, which could potentially get spicy.

Judge Laura Taylor Swain last week denied a motion by the feds that jurors be barred from hearing the dirty details of Madoff’s sex-crazed office antics — including a bizarre “love triangle” he was enmeshed in with one of the defendants.
