Lhota targets Dems with new ad

GOP mayoral candidate Joe Lhota make a direct pitch to Democratic voters Wednesday in his first television ad of the general election, arguing he’s no different than Democratic rival Bill de Blasio — except when it comes to taxes and government spending.

“Bill de Blasio is pro choice. Joe Lhota is pro choice,” the ad starts off.

“Lhota supports gay marriage… de Blasio supports gay marriage,” it continues.

“Both support decriminalizing marijuana.”

“The difference? De Blasio wants to raise taxes and supports reckless government spending, Lhota wants to cut wasteful government spending, putting more money back in your pocket.”

It ends by proclaiming that “Democrats agree Joe Lhota is New York.”

Lhota is trailing de Blasio by more than 40 points in public polls and will have to win over Democratic voters who comprise most of the electorate to have any chance of an upset victory in November.

De Blasio has been trying to portray Lhota as a Republican right-winger, which the ad is designed to dispel.
