Mom and 3 kids die in NY fire tragedy

A raging house fire killed a mother and three of her children in Long Island on Friday night.

Neighbors outside the Suffolk County home said the dead children included an 8-year-old boy and 2-year-old twins, a boy and a girl. Suffolk County police later said three children and a woman died in the 10:15 p.m. fire at 16 Hollywood Drive in Shirley, but did not release their ages.

“Oh no, oh no! Not my son, not my son! I can’t stand,” wailed the father of the older boy, who rushed to the modest one-story home and dropped to his knees in front of the charred and smoking rubble.

The distraught dad paced outside the house with his head in his hands.

“I can’t even see where my son died,” the father wept. “I should have been there.”

Police said multiple people were rushed to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center but didn’t disclose their conditions.

A hospital spokesman would not comment.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Detectives at the scene early Saturday morning searched a Jeep parked in the home’s driveway.

The home’s brick exterior was stained black from the smoke and flames.

A half-dozen neighbors clustered across the street from the tragic inferno.
