Four dead in pre-Christmas carnage across NYC

Four people were killed and at least 10 more suffered gunshot wounds in a wave of pre-Christmas carnage in the city over the weekend, authorities said.

The deadly violence kicked off in The Bronx around 7:30 p.m. Friday, when 19-year-old Edward Melina was killed by a gunshot wound to the torso.

Melina was shot in a dispute on East Tremont Avenue near Crotona Avenue. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital but could not be saved.

The bloodshed continued in Brownsville, Brooklyn, when police found Shamon Cook shot dead at the Kingsborough houses at around 2 a.m. Saturday, cops said.

Cook, 36, was pronounced dead at Interfaith Hospital.

At around 6 a.m. Saturday, Furman Herrera-Martinez, 25, was stabbed dead in Corona, Queens, during a fight with a co-worker at Taco Veloz restaurant on Roosevelt Avenue, cops said.

Another man was killed in South Richmond Hill, Queens when he was shot multiple times in the chest early Sunday, cops said.

Gerrard Edwards, 23, was gunned down at around 3:30 a.m. after getting into a dispute with another man near Liberty Avenue and 112th Street. He was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital, cops said.

The other, non-deadly violence started shortly after midnight Saturday in Queens, when a 16-year-old boy was shot in the leg and arm on Beach 154th Street in Far Rockaway. He was in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital, cops said.

Another victim in Queens was shot in the leg at 120th Avenue and 177th Place in St. Albans at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, cops said. The 26-year-old man was listed in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital.

About an hour later, a man was shot in the back in East Flatbush after a dispute on East 96th Street and Lenox Avenue, cops said. He was in serious condition at Brookdale Hospital, police said.

At around 3 a.m., cops in Brownsville responded to another shooting in which a bullet passed through the neck of a man on Saratoga Avenue. That victim was listed in critical but stable condition at Kings County Hospital, said cops.

At around the same time in Staten Island, a man was shot in the leg after he got into an argument on North Burgher Avenue in Port Richmond.

Things quieted down during the daylight hours Saturday but ratcheted back up again as soon as the sun went down: A woman was shot twice in the back at around 8:45 p.m. in the Hunts Point section of The Bronx, cops said. She was taken to Lincoln Hospital in serious condition.

Back in Brooklyn, a man was shot twice in the torso when he got into a fight at the Gowanus Houses on Baltic Street in Boerum Hill at around 1:30 a.m., cops said. He was rushed to Brooklyn Hospital, where he was expected to survive.

At around 5 a.m. Sunday, three men were shot just minutes apart during two separate incidents in Brooklyn, cops said.

Two men in their 20s were shot near Fulton and Logan streets in Cypress Hills, cops said. One victim was taken to Brookdale Hospital, and the other was brought to Jamaica Hospital. Both are expected to survive.

Soon after, another man in his 20s was shot in the chest at the Howard Houses on East New York Avenue in Brownsville before being brought to Brookdale Hospital in serious condition, cops said.
