Job #1 for Bam, Mitt: Hitting each other

After another abysmal jobs report, President Obama blasted Mitt Romney with a TV ad accusing his rival of exporting US manufacturing jobs to China.

Romney fired back, accusing the president of trying to divert voters’ attention from the paltry 80,000 jobs created in June, which left the unemployment rate stuck at 8.2 percent.

“Voters are smart enough to see through the president’s dishonest ads and realize that he has no plan to restore America’s prosperity,” Romney spokesman Ryan Williams said.

The president’s ad, titled “The Problem,” says Romney “made a fortune” through firms that outsourced manufacturing jobs to China.

It cites a recent Washington Post story that reported that several businesses backed by Romney’s former private-equity firm moved American jobs to China and India to cut costs.

“Mitt Romney’s not the solution,” the ad’s voice-over concludes. “He’s the problem.”

Romney has accused Obama of failing to live up to promises to get tough on China, saying he’d label the economic powerhouse a currency manipulator on his first day in office.

“Obama is desperate to divert attention from his broken promise to hold China accountable,” Williams said.
