Melo for Griffin rumor ‘stupid,’ ‘silly’

The Knicks got a chuckle over an ESPN.com report that they would consider trading Carmelo Anthony for power forward Blake Griffin, or even have a serious internal discussion about it.

The report was also rejected by Clippers coach Doc Rivers before Saturday night’s game against the Spurs, according to another ESPN.com report.

Asked about the possibility of such a trade, Rivers said, “Please, this is stupid,” according to ESPN.com.

“If you’re the Knicks or whoever, would you want Blake Griffin? I would,” the website reported Rivers said. “So I don’t see what the story is.”

The Knicks are convinced Anthony will re-sign with them, and new president Steve Mills was hired to make sure it happens, not to trade him.

The only scenario in which the Knicks would consider a deal with the Clippers in a long-speculated Griffin package is during the summer, if they were faced with losing Anthony for no compensation to a team with cap space, such as the Lakers.

Anthony would prefer to play with Chris Paul and the Clippers than the Mike D’Antoni-coached Lakers, who are hampered by Kobe Bryant’s injury woes. Chicago is another market Anthony might consider, a source told The Post.

The report stated the Knicks had internal discussions about trading Anthony for Griffin, which the Knicks feel at this stage is “extremely silly.’’

Kenyon Martin missed the Houston game Friday with his chronic sore ankle, but could have been resting up to play in his native Dallas Sunday against the Mavericks, in the conclusion of the Texas Triangle trip. Even with Martin out, Knicks coach Mike Woodson didn’t use newcomer Jeremy Tyler.

Iman Shumpert (6-of-6 from 3-point range) was the first Rockets opponent to go perfect from 3-point land with five or more attempts.
