Hot dog! Vendors back at Washington Sq. park

We have a wiener!

Hot-dog vendors are returning to Washington Square Park — one month after The Post revealed a private conservancy’s efforts to give the “unsightly” sausage-slingers the boot.

Last month, watchdogs exposed the Parks Department’s plan to roast the weenies at the request of the star-studded group, which includes actor John Leguizamo’s wife, Justine, as well as celeb chef Mario Batali, who runs a gelato stand in the park.

Now an agency spokesman said Parks honchos will soon request bids from hot-dog carts, which should be running by late spring.

“It never should have come to this in the first place,” said Geoffrey Croft of NYC Park Advocates.

“Rich people who live around the parks should not be dictating public policy on them.”

The conservancy requested that park administrator Sarah Neilson remove the dirty-water dogs from around the park’s iconic arch, according to memos obtained by the Washington Square Park Blog.

Frankfurter fans held protests after The Post reported on the secret agreement, and some even took to Twitter to lash out against Leguizamo
