Jacobs questionable for Giants after hamstring setback

Giants running back Brandon Jacobs said earlier in the week he was certain he would be able to play in Monday night’s game against the Vikings despite a sore hamstring. He was able to practice Thursday and Friday on a limited basis, but he suffered something of a setback on Saturday and did not practice. He is listed as questionable, and losing him would be a huge blow to a running game that is bare to the bone.

Jacobs enjoyed a throwback performance in his last outing, running for 106 yards and two touchdowns in an Oct. 10 loss to the Bears, but came out of that game with a balky hamstring. If he cannot play, the Giants are reduced to fast-forwarding the learning curve on veteran Peyton Hillis and rushing him onto the field though he signed just this week. The only other running back on the roster is rookie Michael Cox, who has never had an NFL rushing attempt.

Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul did not practice for the second consecutive day, missing time because of an illness. He is also listed as questionable, as are tight end Adrien Robinson (foot), defensive tackle Shaun Rogers (knee) and safety Cooper Taylor (shoulder). Rogers was new to the injury report and did not practice on Saturday.

One positive injury development for the Giants is cornerback Corey Webster is listed as probable. Webster missed the past four games with a strained groin. Cornerback Jayron Hosley (hamstring) is out, as is running back David Wilson (neck).

Center David Baas (neck) and cornerback Terrell Thomas (knee) are probable.
