Woman, 50, critical after being struck by car in Bronx

A 50-year-old pedestrian is fighting for her life after being struck by a vehicle near Mosholu Playground Park in The Bronx around 4 p.m. today, cops and witnesses said.

A 26-year-old eyewitness, who only gave his first name, Roberto, said the driver may have had a seizure when he lost control of his vehicle around Mosholu Parkway and Bainbridge Avenue. He said the driver was “slurring [his words], he looked confused, and he didn’t know what was going on” after the crash and that EMS workers at the scene suggested he may have suffered a seizure.

“He started swerving into the park going up the hill. The lady was walking when he hit her. She went forward. He ran her over with both tires. Her head was between her legs, and there was a tire mark on her back. She was rolled into a ball,” he said.

A nearby woman who said she was a doctor rushed over and stayed with the victim until cops arrived, [then] “She was gone,” Roberto said. “I was with the driver, but the cops were saying how she helped them.

The victim was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition, cops said.

The investigation is ongoing, but cops do not believe there is any criminality at this time.
