In ‘Salem,’ the witches are real

WGN America released the first official trailer for its upcoming drama series “Salem” on Thursday, set in the infamous Massachusetts town in 1692.

In the show’s version of events, the Salem witch trials — which saw 200 people accused of practicing witchcraft – weren’t a case of paranoia or mass hysteria as told in the history books, instead they were real.

“There could be nothing worse than a witch hunt,” says one character, before another counters “There is something worse than a witch hunt – a witch.”

“Salem” centers on a romance wrapped around the revelation that witches are real, and “delivers a bold new vision of Salem – and an even bolder new vision of witches,” according to the network.

The drama stars Janet Montgomery (“Made In Jersey”), Shane West (“Nikita”) and Ashley Madekwe (“Revenge”) and premieres Sunday, April 20 on WGN America.
