Glavine: I’ll be ‘disappointed’ not to make Hall on first ballot

Tom Glavine will be rooting for himself and former teammate Mike Piazza, among others, to receive the call for the Hall of Fame on Wednesday. But the former Braves and Mets pitcher isn’t totally surprised Piazza didn’t receive enough votes last year.

“Mike is one of those guys that I think is a Hall of Famer,” Glavine told The Post on Tuesday. “Is he a first ballot Hall of Famer? I don’t know. There are certain guys like that who are a little bit debatable so to speak. But I do think they are Hall of Famers.

“If you’re not surprised that Craig Biggio didn’t get in with 3,000-plus hits, you can’t be totally surprised Mike didn’t get in. But I think they will both get in eventually.”

Piazza and Glavine were teammates on the Mets from 2003-05. Glavine stayed in Flushing through 2007, when he won his 300th game. The lefty is on the ballot for the first time, along with his former Braves teammate Greg Maddux.

Glavine could join Maddux and former manager Bobby Cox to make it a Braves summer in Cooperstown. Maddux is expected to easily reach the threshold (75 percent of the votes) needed for induction by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, but Glavine could be a closer call.

“Being a first ballot Hall of Famer carries a little more weight, not a ton, but a little bit,” Glavine said. “It makes an already prestigious honor a little more prestigious. But if I didn’t get in on the first ballot, I wouldn’t be crushed. I would be disappointed. But there’s no question it would be cool to be a first ballot.”

At least one voter has revealed he didn’t select Maddux, ensuring the right-hander won’t be the first player elected to the Hall of Fame with 100 percent of the votes.

“Why wouldn’t you vote for Greg Maddux?” Glavine said. “There’s not a legitimate reason in the world. I’m sure you could come up with some reasons to justify why you didn’t, but there aren’t any legitimate reasons.

“You would have to come up with one heck of an argument to say why Greg doesn’t deserve to be voted for the Hall of Fame.”
