NO GOING ‘BACK’ TO THE SAME ROUTINE

NET NOTES

The Nets already had six back-to-back scenarios this season entering last night. Their record in the second games: 1-5.

Time to change routine.

So that was what coach Lawrence Frank tried before the game with the T’wolves.

“We changed it. Normally, we do a shootaround at the [practice] facility,” Frank said. “This time we told them come at your normal time that you would for a game and then we’re going to have a meeting a little earlier than we’d normally have it. You try anything.” * Cliff Robinson, out since Nov. 10 with a knee injury and subsequent surgery, could not have been more emphatic about his return:

“Friday. Definite,” said Robinson, who took warmup shots in uniform. . . .

Charlotte has inquired about Jeff McInnis, dangling Melvin Ely in return.

But the Bobcats have asked for a fortune: $1 million cash and a first-round pick. That’s not happening.

Last night was the Nets’ final game with the NBA’s failed microfiber composite ball. No Net will miss it. And the change-over back to a leather ball should go without a hitch.

“It won’t even be noticed. I’ve played with it for six years. Most of us have. It’s not like we forgot how it feels,” said Richard Jefferson, who noted the only real memory of the composite ball was the game at Washington where Vince Carter’s shot died on the back rim and fell in forcing OT. “Outside of that . . . good riddance.”

Frank on T’wolves rookie Randy Foye: “I really like him. It says a lot when they put the ball in his hands to win the game when you’ve got, not only Kevin Garnett, but you’ve got Ricky Davis and Mike James.

He’s explosive.” . . . Kevin Garnett was coming off a season-low 10 points Friday in a victory over Seattle. In 20 career games against the Nets entering last night, Garnett has averaged 20.1 points and 11.6 rebounds.
