INJURED ROOKIE MOSS GROWING IMPATIENT ON THE SIDELINE

GIANT NOTES

Before Sinorice Moss can even think about getting into a game, the rookie has to figure out a way to get onto the practice field.

“I’d like to have him practicing,” head coach Tom Coughlin said when asked when the wide receiver might be able to play. “That’s the first thing.” Moss is out for Thursday’s preseason finale against the Patriots, still bothered by the quad injury that hampered him throughout the preseason.

The 5-foot-8 secondround pick is trying to stay positive, but it hasn’t been easy.

“I know part of getting better is having a good attitude, but I never thought I’d be out this long, so it’s definitely frustrating,” Moss said. “But I’m trying to be patient.” Because of his lack of time on the field, Moss may not get enough work in to be ready for the season opener against the Colts, but he remains optimistic.

“That’s what I’m shooting for,” Moss said. “I really wanted to be part of everything this preseason, but that hasn’t worked out. I have to make the best of it.” Which is something fellow WR Tim Carter has done. He has stayed healthy and looked good against the Jets, catching four passes.

“I’m just competing against myself,” Carter said.

“I’m not worried about anyone else.” WR Plaxico Burress likes seeing Carter out there.

“He’s one of the fastest guys in the league, so if he’s contributing, that will help all of us, including me,” Burress said. “You won’t be able to ignore him.”

The offensive line appears to be rounding into shape, as both C Shaun O’Hara (knee) and T Luke Petitgout practiced on a limited basis yesterday for the first time since the Chiefs game on Aug. 17. “They did all right,” Coughlin said. “They didn’t get many snaps, they didn’t get a whole lot, but what they got, they did OK.”

Coughlin added that starters will get about “10 or 12 snaps” against New England. … Neither candidate for backup quarterback looked good yesterday in practice, with both Jared Lorenzen and Tim Hasselbeck struggling. … The team will make official the first of its cuts today, trimming the roster to 75 players. Teams have to be down to 53 players by 4 p.m. on Saturday.
