Islamic militants from Iran to Indonesia said yesterday that they were organizing volunteers to fight Israel in the Gaza Strip.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a religious decree, ordering Muslims to defend Gaza “in any way possible” and saying anyone who dies in battle there will “be considered a martyr.”

The Fars news agency said 1,100 Iranians had signed up for duty in Gaza since Khamenei issued his call on Sunday.
In Indonesia, a hard-line group said it would begin training volunteers this week and provide them with transportation to Gaza.
“Fighters should be in good physical condition, have a strong faith and be ready to die,” said Ahmad Soebri Lubis, secretary-general of the Islamic Defenders’ Front.
