Agent says Tiger on verge of new Nike deal: report

Tiger Woods may have had a bad weekend, finishing tied for 65th in The Memorial Tournament at 8-over par, but he’s still set to cash in on a big pay day.

Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, told ESPN.com that his client is on the verge of a new endorsement deal with Nike.

“We’re down to the very very short strokes right now. I would expect we would come out with some sort of joint announcement when we get the paperwork signed,” Steinberg said.

Woods had signed a deal with Nike in 2006 that was expiring this year but the new pact could be announced as soon as the middle of June after the U.S. Open. When asked about the deal this weekend, he said it was “Just a matter of time” before re-signing with Nike.

Woods, who lost several of his deals with other companies after his 2009 extramarital affairs became public, has been with Nike since 2006, and is the biggest earner in off-the- course earnings, making $77 million last year according to Golf Digest.

On the field, Woods has been playing at the top of his game having won four titles in 2013 although he has not won a major since the 2008 U.S. Open.
