DISS SET OFF UNION SQ. GUN MELEE

A bloody gang fight that erupted in gunfire in Union Square Park on Halloween night was triggered by a show of “disrespect,” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said yesterday.

Five teens were hospitalized with gunshot and stab wounds. Kelly described one victim, who was stabbed in the stomach, as “likely to die.”

Police sources say a fight erupted at 1 a.m. inside a McDonald’s at 17th Street and Broadway. Detectives were trying to determine whether that fight had spilled into the park.

Kelly said the victims had gang affiliations and that the violence appeared to have stemmed from a show of “disrespect.”

The injured, all males between 15 and 19, were taken to Bellevue and St. Vincent’s hospitals.

The four shooting victims were all listed in stable condition at Bellevue Thursday, the stabbing victim was listed in serious condition at St. Vincent’s.

None of the victims has been identified.
