The taxman’s targeting: blame the White House

The Issue: Whether the Obama administration could have stopped the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups.

Jonah Goldberg made an excellent point in “IRS Follows O’s Lead,” (PostOpinion, May 17) when he said: “Imagine for a moment if black civil-rights organizations, gay groups or teachers unions were targeted by the IRS.”

The White House would have started a major investigation in seconds. Every day we see President Obama and his henchmen doing nothing but stonewalling what happened with the IRS, the AP phone snooping, Benghazi, etc.

Obama just continues to do what he does best — make speeches.

The IRS scandal shows abuse against honest citizens for political reasons and contempt for the law by people, including the president, who are entrusted with great powers.

It is no less damning than the political attacks on Martin Luther King Jr. by the FBI in the ’60s.

This appears to be the modus operandi of atheistic progressives, liberals and socialists who all operate under the only moral foundation they have: The ends justify the means in promoting fairness and social equality.

What the IRS did, in an effort to lend efficiency to an increase in workload, was tantamount to a Google keyword search. It’s very superficial.

Where it gets murky is the exact point where in-depth analysis turned into the targeting of specific political groups. It may be that those efforts were just confusion over standards and not knowing what questions to ask or what to do with the responsive data.

Not surprising in an age where most employees are trained to let technology do the thinking. Karen Ann DeLuca

When asked by Republicans who was responsible for the tax agency’s targeting of conservative groups, IRS chief Steven Miller couldn’t provide a name.

Here is an educated guess: Could it be Eric Holder? Perhaps the Attorney General will initiate an “independent” investigation to probe the matter. The independent investigator will be selected by one of Holder’s underlings or possibly Holder himself. Since he is totally unbiased and thoroughly objective, that will solve the problem.
