State Assemblyman arrested for suspicion of DWI invites donors to cocktail fundraising party

ALBANY – Maybe he’ll use the cash for his legal defense fund?

A state Assemblyman who was arrested for suspicion of DWI on Tuesday sent out an invitation a day later reminding potential donors about a cocktail fund-raising party he is hosting next week.

The event for Assemblyman Robert Rodriguez at Harlem’s MIST on 116th Street is still on, according to his spokeswoman, who said the Assemblyman was taking a “planned vacation” and was unavailable for comment.

The price of the fundraiser goes from $250 per person to $2,500 for a table.

According to police, Rodriguez was driving his Jeep Cherokee early Tuesday morning in Colonie, just outside Albany, when cops pulled him over at 2:10 a.m. for swerving.

Rodriguez, 37, who had earlier been at a bar in Albany, had alcohol on his breath and “displayed watery, bloodshot eyes and slow speech,” according to the police report.

Cops said he never identified himself as a lawmaker but refused to take a sobriety test.

Rodriguez was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a chemical test and was cited for failing to keep right.

He regrets any embarrassment he caused constituents and hoped to put it behind him, said Chelsea Connor, his spokeswoman.
