NO MORE SIGN OF TROUBLE

AIG’s Water Street workers were liberated yesterday from the company’s toxic name. And they couldn’t be happier.

The hobbled insurance giant’s name and logo, which stretched above the building’s entrance, was removed and then painted over on Saturday.

The property-casualty arm, which still makes money for AIG, will now be known as AIU Holdings Ltd. in a blatant attempt to distance itself from its parent company.

One female employee, who refused to give her name for fear of reprisal against AIG workers, welcomed the move.

“I feel a lot safer now, it’s true,” she said.

Another woman, who also wished to remain anonymous, said she had been verbally abused in front of the Water St. office.

“If it means we can all turn up to work feeling safer, it’s a small price to pay,” she said.

An AIG insider told The Post the decision to remove the signage from the downtown office was proposed in the interest of staff safety.
