‘Breaking Bad’ spinoff ‘Better Call Saul’ remains a possibility

‘Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan hasn’t forgotten about the show’s proposed spinoff, “Better Call Saul” — which would feature ethically challenged lawyer Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk).

Gilligan told thewrap.com that he would likely appoint Peter Gould, currently a producer on “Breaking Bad,” to run the show that would revolve around Goodman, who’s been the lawyer for series protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and his partner, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul).

Over the show’s five seasons, Saul has gotten the two crystal meth producers out of multiple jams in his role as a slimy “Mr. Fixit.”

“We are plugging away coming up with a pitch and a take on it for the network and studio and hopefully everyone will agree that there’s a really fun show to be had here,” Gilligan told the site.

There are many ways to go with “Better Call Saul.” Think half-hour comedy or hourlong drama that would serve as a successor to “Breaking Bad,” whose final eight episodes start Aug. 11 on AMC.

Of course, Gilligan may be getting ahead of himself here, since Saul’s fate has not been revealed as “Breaking Bad” reaches its conclusion.

“You never know, when the dust settles at the end of our final eight episodes, where everybody’s gonna be and who’s gonna be left standing,” Gilligan said.

Odenkirk starred in the ’90s-era cult-fave HBO show “Mr. Show with Bob and David,” along with “Arrested Development” star David Cross.
