Celebs cozying up to despots

The Issue: Jennifer Lopez’s birthday performance for Turkmenistani dictator Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.

***

Is Jennifer Lopez that naïve (“Dancing for Dictators,” Editorial, July 2)?

Didn’t she know where she was and who the leader was? Or, are her people that bad?

Regardless, she came off looking foolish, which is the nicest word I can say about her.

But because of who she is, she will be forgiven.

In fact, I’m sure many people weren’t aware who the leader was and how bad a monster he is.

Why was she there in the first place?

This just proves that most celebrities have the IQ of a pigeon.

As noted in the editorial, celebrities performing for bad guys is nothing new.

But neither is American interference that empowers these same autocrats.

I’m more concerned about irresponsible government action abroad than these private concerts.

Maybe performers are actually the true patriots. At least they’re taking money away from tyrannical regimes, instead of supplying potential enemies with funding and weapons.
