A chastened Tiger Woods — ensnared in a humiliating exposé of his serial infidelity and churlish disappointment with married sex — confessed yesterday that he’s let his family down through his “transgressions.”
“I am far short of perfect,” the world’s greatest golfer admitted in a statement on his Web site. “I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves.”
Woods, 33, effusively praised put-upon wife Elin Nordegren for putting up with all the mud.
The blond beauty is believed to have swung a wedge to bash out two rear windows of Tiger’s SUV last Friday — he says to free him from the wreckage — after he crashed at the end of their driveway. Still, rumors persisted she was actually chasing her philandering hubby with the wedge — angered after reports of his shenanigans hit supermarket tabloids.
In his confession, a tamed Tiger gives no specifics about his “transgressions” — but those came in a flurry of horny e-mails, text messages and voicemails that have been made public.
The golfer’s praise of Elin, 29, also seemed to belie the grumpy grousing he made about his marriage bed, complaining that “once you get married, the sex stops,” according to sources.
“He said his sex life with his wife was miserable. He said the old adage is true — once you get married, the sex stops. Tiger said the sex with Elin just dried up,” a source close to one of his alleged gal pals told The Post.
Meanwhile, a fellow golfer bitterly noted he wished he had never introduced Elin to Tiger in the first place.
“I really feel sorry for Elin — since me and my wife were at fault for hooking her up with him,” Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik, 44, told The Golf Channel.
Parnevik introduced the couple at the 2001 British Open. At the time, fellow Swede Elin worked as a nanny for Parnevik and his wife, Mia.
“We probably thought he was a better guy than he is,” Parnevik said.
“I would probably need to apologize to her — and hope she uses a driver next time instead of the 3-iron.”
For the first time yesterday, it was revealed just how steamed Elin was over Tiger’s sexcapades — she left an angry phone message with one of the golfer’s birdies.
“You know who this is because you are f- – -ing my husband!” TMZ quoted Nordegren saying in a voice mail allegedly left with toothy brunette reality-show contestant Jaimee Grubbs, who brags she had more than 20 sex romps with Woods.
Grubbs, 24, an LA cocktail waitress who appeared on VH1’s “Tool Academy,” says she met Woods at a Vegas nightclub in April 2007 when the two began carrying on an affair — two months before Nordegren gave birth to the couple’s first child.
Grubbs also worked as a receptionist as a medical-marijuana store in Los Angeles — but quit suddenly last week, telling bosses she was spooked by a voicemail confrontation she had with Woods’ wife.
It appears it was the hookups with Grubbs that led to the unraveling of Tiger’s secret sex life; Elin apparently found her phone number on her husband’s phone log.
And, in turn, the discovery led a panicked Woods to call Grubbs and beg her to change her phone ID.
“My wife went through my phone and may be calling you,” Woods pleaded. “Please take your name off that. Just have it as a number on the voicemail. Huge. Quickly. Bye.”
The phone messages came in the days just before Woods got into the bizarre SUV accident outside his mansion in Windermere, Fla.
The wreck came on the heels of the first report linking Woods with another woman, Rachel Uchitel. A third gal, Kalika Moquin, a Vegas club manager, has also emerged as a possible Woods mistress.
Last night, TMZ.com reported that Uchitel — who this week insisted to The Post that she never had an affair with Tiger — is ready to say today that she lied to protect the golfer. The Web site also reported it was texts from Uchitel, not Grubbs, that triggered last week’s fight between Tiger and Elin.
Uchitel has scheduled a news conference today in LA, according to her high-profile attorney, Gloria Allred.
