Rudy Giuliani has signed on as a security adviser to help crime-addled Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, get ready for the 2016 Olympics.
The former mayor — whose name was recently floated as a possible GOP challenger to US Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand — talked up the idea of putting his well-known “zero tolerance” policy on crime in place in Rio, where the murder rate is high.
“He’s going to help us in day-to-day security and, especially, with an eye toward the [2010] World Military Games and the Olympic Games,” said Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes.
Giuliani, who remains a highly popular figure in the GOP and is New York’s best-known potential statewide candidate, declined to discuss his political plans.
But sources familiar with his thinking said he has all but ruled out a challenge to Gillibrand.
